Prof. C. S. Poon, obtained his PhD from Imperial College, London University. He is currently Professor and Director of Research Centre for Environmental Technology and Management at the Civil and Structural Engineering Department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Prof. Poon specialises in the research and development of environmentally friendly construction materials, waste management and recycling technologies, and sustainable construction. He has published over 220 papers in international journals and conferences.

He is a Fellow of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and is a Past Chairman of the HKIE Environmental Division. Prof. Poon is also a Fellow of the Hong Kong Concrete Institute (HKCI) and a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). He is currently a Vice-President of the HKCI, and was a past President of the ACI (China) Chapter.

He served on the Advisory Council on the Environment (ACE) of the HKSAR Government and chairs the Waste Management Sub-committee of ACE (from 2003-2008). He is now a member of the Council for Sustainable Development.
